Welcome to the page for particle settling

The terminal settling velocity of a rigid particle is an important parameter in many solid liquid separations. Even the Expert System for filtration equipment specification has the option of using settling velocity to determine equipment type, and simulations of sedimentation equipment require this fundamental property.
The preferred technique for the calculations is by the Heywood Tables, for larger particles, and Stokes' Law for small ones. However, for comparison, data from the classic Galileo, or Archimedes, correlation is also provided.

The table below contains default values:

Property Value Units
Particle size microns
Particle density kg m-3
Fluid density kg m-3
Fluid viscosity Pa s

You may alter any of these variables as you wish and then submit the calculation.
